BISWANATH COLLEGE LIBRARY
Biswanath College library, named after the college, was established in 1960 with a collection of about 300 books and journals received as donations. At that time, the then MLA and Finance Minister of Assam Late Kamakhya Prasad Tripathy, donated a good number of books and journals to the library . No 'separate librarian was appointed, but two-office assistants had to do all the library works.

In 1963 for the first time, Sri Munin Chcmdra Goswami, MA (Lecturer in English) was appointed as the in-charge of the library. In 1965 Sri Goswami . 'tendered his resignation and Sri Fatik Chandra Hazarika, MA (Lecturer in political Science) was entrusted with the work of librarian till 1970. On August  27,1970 Sri Nagen Chandra Sarmah, BA, B.Lib.Sc., was appointed librarian of the college. After the appointment of a regular librarian, the college library changed the old method of book distribution. The library now applies the Dewey Decimal classification, and the mode of cataloguing is also modernized. The staking system is a close pattern, but the library authority allows its readers to consult the book with the help of library attendants to make a better choice in their selection. The library introduces Brown's Issue and Discharging system.

The new library building was constructed under the 7th plan With UGC grant of Rs. 5,63,081.00. The college share for the building as Rs. 1,40,770.00. The length of the library building is 100 feet and the breadth is 40 feet. Under the 8th plan during the year 1992-97 the UGC sanctioned a book grant of Rs. 2,00,000. Again, under the 9th plan during the year 1997- 2000 the UGC sanctioned grant of Rs. 2,00,000.00.

The library maintains an Attendance Register both for the students and the teachers. In addition' to the student members, the teachers of the college also frequently visit the library so as to collect information on topic of their interest. Several teachers of the college have done their Ph.D. and M.Phil. :courses with immense help from the college library. Besides the students and teacher members, some people from the locality also come to get materials from the library. An ex-student of this college Mrs. Santa Sarmah (Ujir) has done her dissertation on "Biswanath College Library - A Brief History of its Growth & Development" for the degree of MA in Education. The library offered substantial scope and resources to the teachers of Biswanath College who have ;contributed articles to Assamese Encyclopedia published by Asom Sahitya :Sabha. The process of computerization of the library has started and it is•' hoped that within this academic session at least stock verification and cataloguing works should be completed. A Copier (Xerox) machine has recently' been procured and is in full operation of the college. Necessary steps are also being taken to subscribe to different new journals with aid from the UGC fund Despite having many effective plans and visions the librarian is hardly in a position to think of providing the members with all the latest books and journals and other facilities because of lack of financial autonomy given to him. Still with limited resources the library has continued to do the best to its members:
