Department of Political science was started from the session (1960-61) dated 7th September, 1060. But at that time there was no Political Science subject separately. Because there was Civics, which was a combination of both Political Science and Economics. But later on, Civics was completely out of existence from college syllabus. As independent subjects, Civics was completely out of existence from college syllabus. As a result, Political Science, as a separate subject was started to impart lesions w.e.f. 1961 in Pre-University class with Sri Nishendu Kumar Das, M.A. at the helm of the management of the department. Sri Das was later co-ordinated by Sri Fatik Chandra Hazarika, M.A. both of these dedicated lecturers retired.

Mission, vision and goal:
Political Science deals with political activities of society as a whole. It teaches the good side and bad side of political activities of a society. The mission of this subject is to create good citizen in society. It tries to give scientific knowledge of political activities of the member of the society through various agencies of Political Science. So, the subject covers the various branches of it from ancient to latest period. The mission of the department is to provide perfect knowledge of the subject to create noble and efficient citizen and ruler in scientific manner. To fulfill the motto, lessons are imparted in Political thought, Political theory, Constitutions of India, UK, USA, Swiss and China etc. Public administration, International Relations Political Thinkers (East and West), Political analysis, freedom movement of India with special reference to Assam, Sociology/International Law, Local-self Govt. etc.
The main objective of introducing the subject was to impart knowledge of Political Science so that the students become effective citizens and administrative personages in the field of Administration. The Goal may be summarized as to produce good teachers and parents in future. Man being a social and political animal, systematic knowledge of Political Science is important. The aims and objectives of Political Science department is to impart systematic knowledge to the students. As a result, it has been our consistent effort to produce well-informed and good and noble citizens from the purview of our subject. Without systematic and scientific knowledge of Political Science it is not possible to establish a conscious society in a democratic setup in modern state. As a subject super-structure study of the society it covers many important theories and we try out best to give a least all information to students so that they will be able to lay a role of good and noble citizen.
