The department of mathematics was started from the session 1970-71. The subject was introduced in the Pre-University classes at first, and then in the Degree classes from the session 1972-73 with the General course only. Major course was started from the session 1992-93. Sri B.R. Kalita was the first lecturer in the department who retired in 1998.

Mission, goal and vision:

The mission of the department is to impart to the students the knowledge concerning fundamental concept of various parts of Mathematics along with the history and development of the subject.

Mathematics is a valuable process of thought by which the students can develop and mature their minds.

The main objective of introducing the subject in the college is to input the knowledge of mathematics so that the students may become effective and efficient citizens of our country.

Now-a-days, mathematics has become an integral part of our lives. It has become the most challenging subject to teach as well as to learn. So the goal of our department is to produce good teachers, scholars and parents in the society.
