Department of Education was started in Biswanath College from the session 1967-68 (19th July). In order to meet the growing demand of the students and the public the subject was introduced in the Pre-University 1st year class and in the Degree 1st year class simultaneously. Sri Prabhat Gogoi, M.A. was appointed as full time lecturer on 19-01-1967. Late Rosha Saikia, M.A., B.T. was appointed lecturer in the next year on 05-08-1968.
Major Course in Education was introduced from the session 1984-85. Since the beginning of the course, the department has been able to produce a good number of graduates with major. The department offers laboratory practical as special paper with a view to making the subject more interesting for the students. The department possesses a well-equipped psychological laboratory.
Goal, Mission and Vision of the Department:
The goal of introducing the subject was to impart the knowledge of (i) Educational Pedagogy and (ii) Cultural Traditions, so that the students of today would become effective, efficient teachers and citizens, researchers and administrators of tomorrow in the field of education and society. The goal may be summarized as to produce good teachers and citizens so that they may be able to play their respective leading roles in the society in the days to come.

In addition to the introduction of the courses mentioned above, all possible help will be provided to all organizations in the process of eradicating illiteracy, poverty and social evils from the society. Out vision is to make the students useful members of the society so that they can contribute their best to the society they belong to.
