It was on the 7th of September , 1960 when Biswanath College was established at Biswanath Chariali,under the then Tezpur Sub-Division and undivided Dorrang District od Assam at the initative of a handful patrons of learning with mission of imparting best education to the pupils so as to prepare them to prove themselves worthy of being recognized as the leading thinkers of the society .Contrary to the present trend of establishing a college necessitated by the exploration of scope for employment of a few local jobless youths having Post-Graduate Degree ,the founder-fathers of Biswanath College could foresee,unless their childrenwere given opportunity to pursue higher studies at the local level they would not be able to complete with the rest of he world in future.The people,mostly with rural background having little light of higher education in themselves,could become the real architect of this seat of learning of being guided by their genuine thirst for knowledge and passion for making room for their children to have berths alongside the world-order.Though sounded like attempts to generate lotuses on cow-dung at the initial stage,the zeal of these patrons proved strong,and the institution has now substantively stepped into the decade of celebrating Golden Jubilee with its total Strength of 1703 students,67 teachers and 52 employees in other categories,producing a good number of graduates so far,who after successful completion of higher studies have occupied prominent position in the society,despite threats from various corner to General Education in the Present context of the social system.It has immense future of capability of generating financial stability on one hand and Humen Resources on the other.And this has been possible only on the merit of the conserted effort of its teachers ,students,employees,guardians enough extending help and assistance to the being and becoming of the instituion.Established in 1960,the college could earn for it the Deficit Grant in 1960,i.e.,within three years of its foundtation,not merely on miracle of any kind but on its rational recognition by the Government.
