The University was established by the Act of Assam Legislative Assembly and recognised by Distance Education Council, India. Biswanath College Study Centre started in January, 2008 with Principal as the Centre-in-charge and Dr. P. K. Mahanta as the Co-ordinator
The main objective is to provide higher education to working people, housevives, dropouts and other disadvantaged group. The course details as follows :
