The college was established on 7th September, 1960 at the initiative of a handful social activist and patrons of learning of the locality with the mission of imparting best education to the youth enabling them to be the worth thinkers of the coming days. Later their dreams come to reality at the whole hearted cooperation of the entire population of the locality. People of the villages with little or no light of higher education stood behind them solidly with the hope of educating their future generation.
The college was brought to Deficit-System of grant in aid by Govt. of Assam in 1963. Coming under Govt. Grant-in-aid within three years of establishment was not just a miracle but on its rational recognition of mission, vision, objective, values and above all the sincerely & serious nature of the administration.
The science faculty was introduced in 28th Nov, 1970 with Pre-University courses offering physics, chemistry, Biology( Zoology and Botany) and Mathematics. The degree courses in science subjects were introduced in 1976-77 and Major course in the science subject from 1982-1983. The science stream was brough under deficit-system of grant –in-aid from 1st January, 1978.
From the day of its inception the college is moving forward with its concrete road map to reach its goal. New courses are regularly added to its arcend and the process still continuing with the changining social and economical demand of time & society.
